“Uome”
Wins Australian Timpenny Title 2008
“Uome” won the Australian Timpenny title for the third
time and it is the fifth time this boat has won the Victorian
title. Doug Carswell won with Alan Brown in 2001 and 2003
and with Rowan Gillies in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Doug Carswell is commodore of
Bendigo Yacht Club and the club has experienced insufficient water in Lake Eppalock over the last few
years to conduct any serous sailing. Further more last month the
club house was accidentally burnt down as a consequence of an
electrical fault. Some how Doug and Rowan found
enough time to prepare, then sail a series where patience and skill was
necessary in a light regatta where consistency was the secret to
success.
